About

I'm a computer programmer with passion for art, music and video games. On this website I share my ideas and projects, but I do not restrict myself to programming.

Brief history of my programming career

The first memory I have is playing Duck Hunt on the NES. This love for video games eventually led me to GameMaker 6 which is what I used to make my first game.

Learning GameMaker Language (GML) helped me pick up other programming languages like Pascal, but I only started taking programming seriously when I bought my first programming book - Programming: Principles and Practice using C++, by Bjarne Stroustrup.

This book cost me twice the original price because as a 13 year old kid from Croatia, I didn't yet understand how international shipping worked. At the time, I was not fluent in English, so the book doubled as an English practice resource - maybe it wasn't such a bad deal after all?

After high-school I followed the typical Software Engineer career path: I went to college and did some short-term freelancing work on the side. For my graduation project, I built a 3D game engine in Java. Soon after I pivoted to web and business software because it was high in demand.

When I wasn't working on software for others, I built game engine tech in C++ and C for fun. This helped me develop low-level skills, which eventually enabled me to work on low-level systems with C++ full-time.

Why do I write?

I write for fun; however, these days, my writing also serves as a small act of rebellion against the enshittification of the internet.

Unfortunately, the amount of fake (generated) information is rapidly increasing over time, smothering authentic content. While I understand the excitement some feel for new technology, I'm deeply disappointed by the lack of restraint.

I do not use the internet to talk to bots or consume bot-generated content. To me, the value of the internet lies in connecting with other people. For that reason, everything on this website is written by me - with my own two hands, my imperfect English, and my lived experiences.
